Baldasa Sphynx is a small home based Cattery based in Bellingham, Northumberland. We aim to breed with the highest standards of breeding with the objective of producing both physically and mentally healthy kittens. Our cats and kittens are raised in our family home as part of our large family, including children & dogs. We HCM scan annually with a CVS approved cardiologist.
Our kittens are spayed/neutered before coming home so you don't have to worry about it later. They will also come with a lifetime of support and hopefully a life long friendship. The decision to start our Elf Program was not taken lightly and there was a lot of thought before we came to the decision. After doing extensive research on the American Curl that is when I realized this outcross WILL benefit our sphynx breed more than anything.
CURLED EARS from the American Curl is A SPONTANEOUS NATURAL MUTATION just like the hairless gene. Two noted geneticists, Solveig Pflueger and Roy Robinson, were contacted to study this unusual mutation of the American Curl in 1985. They each determined that the peculiar curled ear was a genetic trait and was inherited in every case, causing it to be labeled a dominant gene, with no deformities attached to it. Referred to as a spontaneous mutation, the gene that causes the ear to curl appeared to be following a single dominant pattern. All cats in our Elf program are scanned for HCM and we also hope by using the American Curl our chances of producing HCM positive kittens will be reduced drastically. Some feel that breeders are producing Elf Cats just to make money on a "Designer Breed"….
I believe people that say this do so because they are close minded and don't really know how beneficial it is to outcross with very healthy breeds like the AC. Any responsible breeder knows that breeding is a hobby and a lot of hard work no matter what breed. We did not start selling pet kittens until 2011 and even then there was very few going to pet homes. Many of our first kittens stayed in our program or went to other responsible breeders working on the Elf Cats. Outcrossing is very expensive to do and starting a new breed is 100x that.
Almost every breed out there was made by putting 2 breeds together at some point. We would not have a lot of our wonderful cat and dog breeds today without the determination of a few breeders working very hard for the same goal. They are the sweetest little kitties I have ever met and I could not imagine the world without them. Kristilmist Cattery is a Small hobby breeding Cattery.

Kittens leaving to new homes, have thorough background checks undertaken of prospective new family's and are selected for my kittens carefully. I do not compromise the health of my sphynx cats, every cat entering my Cattery is quarantined and tested and must be healthy. All protocols are carried out for the optimal health of my cats.
Occasionally kittens are available for permanent homes. You have a life time support from me to cover support and help with any eventuality. Three beautiful Sphynx kittens looking for there forever home.

Our sphynx kingdom is a place where you can find pure breed hairless sphynx kittens. For several years, I've owned a variety of cat breeds, all of which have been spayed or neutered. I've even had macaws and dogs that I've owned, exhibited, and bred. When the kids were older, I always wanted to work with animals, but in a less stressful setting.
To start my small cattery, I studied various breeds of cats and fell in love with Sphynx cats. In the current study, KRT71 was analyzed in ten cat breeds with rexoid and hairless phenotypes. Hairless cats were included in this study because the naked phenotype of Sphynx cats is suggested to be allelic and dominant to the Devon Rex mutation .
In cat, a 1575-bp nucleotide mRNA is produced and translated into 524 amino acids. Two of 55 identified mutations are likely associated with the Devon and Sphynx phenotypes. The Devon Rex mutation is a complicated set of two insertions and a deletion that leads to a splicing error. An 81-bp deletion removes the last 4 bp of intron 6, extending into the first 77 bp of exon 7 (c.1108-4_1184del). This deletion is followed by an 8-bp insertion of novel sequence (c.1184_1185insAGTTGGAG).
This small insertion is followed by normal exon 7 sequence, except for one addition of thymine that is inserted 12 bp downstream (c.1196insT). As confirmed by cDNA analysis, these mutations disrupt the 3′ splice site of intron 6, the highly conserved AG, causing an alternative downstream acceptor to be employed (Fig.2). A new alternative acceptor site is found within the first 37 bp of exon 7 (r.1108_1221del), which is 16 bp after the single thymine insertion. The resulting protein has a 35-amino-acid deletion at the 3′ C-terminus end of the α-helical rod domain (Supplementary Fig. 1).
Approximately 200 cats were genotyped for the identified Rex polymorphism and all of the Devon Rex were homozygous for the mutation. Thus, the mutation is fixed in the breed, suggesting that this mutation controls the re allele at the rex locus and it could be considered a breed-defining genetic characteristic. These data suggest that two copies of the deletion are required to cause a curly-coat phenotype that meets the standard for the Devon Rex breed. Sphynx – The skin of a Sphynx has been said to resemble warm suede, not unlike their warm, affectionate personality. Similar to other hairless cat breeds, Sphynx are one the most allergy friendly breeds. Contrary to popular belief, most cats of this breed are not completely hairless, although they appear to be bald all over.
That's because their fur is so fine and short, it usually cannot be seen by the human eye. Shedding is almost non-existent with these types of cats. I breed my cats with putting plenty of time into them to breed the best temperament I can and the best strong hearts for us all to love and enjoy. I bought my first Spynx kitten last year from Breeder, Liz Bennett, in Glendale, Arizona.
I've never owned a cat before, therefore I wanted a good, healthy kitten and a professional breeder. She had a litter almost ready to go to their new homes. We made an appointment for my wife and myself to come visit her and see the kittens and parents. Her place was very clean, which immediately put us at ease.
Then, she brought out the kittens that she had available. It was hard to decide which one to purchase because they were equally cute and cuddly. I want to say, my little "girl" is a huge part of our family now.

You made a man who was dead set on buying another dog… A cat lover. The Sphynx as we know it today is originally a Canadian breed that derives from a spontaneous genetic mutation. In 1966, one of a litter of kittens born to an ordinary short-haired black and white domestic cat was born hairless.
The hairless kitten was then bred back to its mother and another hairless cat was born. Most sphynx kitten breeds, in terms of conformation, fitness, and temperament, are nearly similar, and these two breeds complement one another. Sphynx Kingdom the right place for you to purchase your sphynx kittens.

It is important to us that we share this wonderful, cuddly, loving and unique breed of cat with the world. We strive to only produce healthy, happy Sphynx kittens so they can provide their adoptive families with years of love, devotion and wonderful memories. First attempts at breeding Sphynx began in 1966, when a black and white cat gave birth to a hairless kitten in Ontario, Canada. The owner named the hairless kitten Prune, due to the wrinkled hairless skin.
Prune was bred to other cats in an attempt to create more hairless kittens. Because hairlessness is a recessive gene, some of the kittens resulting from this union had hair, while others did not. These kittens were called Canadian Hairless Cats, which some people referred to as Sphynx cats, due to their physical similarities with an ancient Egyptian cat sculpture called the Sphinx. Siamese – One of the most recognizable of all cat breeds is also considered hypoallergenic. The Siamese extra-short hair limits shedding and their beautiful coat comes in four traditional colors.
Personality-wise, the Siamese is popular for their people-loving nature and strong communication skills. They are known to meow A LOT, but their adorable baby blue eyes make it hard for their owners to stay annoyed. Welcome to "Gatodouro"-home of Sphynx and Cornish Rex cats.
